One doesn’t often seem to think of a toy picnic set as a gift that a child would want.  A toy picnic set doesn’t compare to the hours of fun a child can have playing a video game or playing computer games.  So it seems.  Yet children today are like children of decades past.  They want to be like their parents and by toying around with adult tools children learn.  A toy picnic set may not be treated in the same manner that a regular picnic set is used by adults.  Afterall, it is just that, a toy.  But the important thing a child can gain with a toy picnic set are some of life’s lessons in manners, etiquette, and being able to identify the food groups.

A 16-piece toy picnic set is available online which can be a great learning tool though it’s not a practical picnic set.  The pieces consist of burger buns and other food items such as beef patties, corn cobs, potato chips and pieces of vegetables and fruits such as watermelon all contained in a plastic picnic basket.  Because this particular toy picnic set is designed for children at the age of three, they will learn to identify and to pronounce the name of some of the food items in the basket that they came in and in what order to serve them at a picnic.  Children can also learn how to spread a blanket on the ground, keep the area clean, and how to pick up after the picnic is over.

This set does not include plates, napkins, or utensils.  The next step would be to purchase a toy picnic set that comes with plates and utensils in a picnic basket that resembles an adult picnic set.  A real set would allow the child to learn the rules of manners and etiquette when picnicking with friends and family.   One of the things the child would learn with such a set is how to actually choose and pack real food for a picnic and then serving it to his or her friends on a plate or serve refreshments in a cup.  Once the picnic is over, the next lesson to learn is cleaning up and packing the items in the toy picnic set.

Children do not necessarily need to use the set in a family picnic.  They can spend time in the backyard with their friends pretending to have a picnic.  Or, they may use the set in a children’s birthday party where they can learn to servce cake, ice cream, and drinks with the wares packed in the toy picnic set.  Overall, the use of a toy picnic set would be an excellent learning tool for any child.
